3 x George IV Silver Teaspoons, Rich. Britton 1823
This is a good quality set of three George IV Sterling Silver Teaspoons in the classic Old English pattern. The spoons each have the initials M.R.R engraved at the top of the stem.
The teaspoons are made in London by Richard Britton and date to 1823. Richard Britton was a specialist spoon maker who was active in London from 1812 until around 1850, having been previously apprenticed to noted silversmith John Hutson.
Condition is generally good but the bowl of one teaspoon is slightly misshapen and they do of course have the surface wear that you would expect after nearly 200 years of use. PLease make sure to view all the photographs.
Each spoon is 13.2cm / 5.2ins long and the set of three together weighs in at a very respectable 40.9g / 1.4oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the undersides of the stems, are clear and easy to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter h for 1823, the George IV duty mark and the RB makers' mark for Richard Britton.
