George III Silver Caddy Spoon, William Pugh, 1813 George III Georgian Silver %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
This is a very stylish George III Sterling Silver Caddy Spoon. The stem of the spoon, which is in Fiddle shape, has a beaded ring around the blank cartouche and floral decoration down the lower part. The bowl has a very distinctive lattice design engraved into it. This would make a great addition to any collection.

The caddy spoon is made in Birmingham by William Pugh and dates to 1813. William Pugh was active between around 1800 and around 1820 and is probably best known for his very fine caddy spoons although he also made some excellent vinaigrettes.

The caddy spoon has definitely seen some use but condition is generally very good with just a small ding in the bowl, which because of the lattice pattern is only really visible from the underside. Apart from that there is just 208 years of superficial surface wear. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The caddy spoon is 8.4cm / 3.3ins long and 4cm / 1.6ins across the bowl. It weighs a respectable 8.0g / 0.28oz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks on the underside of the bowl are a little rubbed but still easy to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter p for 1813, the George III duty mark and the WP makers' mark for William Pugh.
