2 x George V Silver Candlesticks, Birmingham, 1911

Here we have a charming small Pair of George V Sterling Silver Pillar Candlesticks. The candlesticks have circular bases, weighted for stability, with line decoration on the top. They have cylindrical stems with matching line decoration around the rims of the sconces. These would originally have been intended for use on a dressing table or desk but would work in any position today.
The candlesticks were made in Birmingham by Henry Williamson Ltd and date to 1911. Henry Williamson opened his first premises in London's Farringdon Street in 1879. The firm expanded to became Henry Williamson Ltd in 1894, opened a manufacturing premises in Spencer Street, Birmingham and also commissioned pieces from Sheffield, all to run alongside the London showroom. They specialised in small silverware items for the dining table, the dressing table or for personal use. The company finally ceased trading in the late 1920s.
Condition is very good with just a few dings around the rims of the bases, as is usually the case, plus the superficial surface wear that you would expect after over 110 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
Each candlestick is 9cm / 3.5ins high and 6.1cm / 2.4ins in diameter across the base. The pair together weigh in at 140.4g / 4.95oz but this does of course include the weighting material in the bases.
The hallmarks, on the upper sides of the bases, are somewhat rubbed but can still be read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter m for 1911 and the H.W.Ld makers' mark for Henry Williamson Ltd.
