2 x Edwardian Silver Mounted Glass Vases, 1905
This is a striking pair of Edwardian Cut Glass Vases with Sterling Silver Rims. The vases have spread bases with twelve ribs rising their full height, six of which are red and six are clear. The stems of the vases have four deep horizontal cuts with chamfered edges. The silver mounts on the rims are plain.
The vases were made in London by John Hazlewood Worrall and date to 1905. The firm was founded by John H. Worrall in 1899 and operated from premises in Goswell Road in the City of London. They specialised in silver mounted glassware such as vases, perfume bottles, dressing table sets and preserve pots. In 1906 they became J.H. Worrall, Son & Co Ltd and later moved to premises in Aldersgate Street. They ceased trading in the 1920s.
The vases have definitely been used but their overall condition is good with just a couple of nibbles in the raised ribs of the glass and some little dings in the silver rims. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
Being handblown glassware there is some slight variation between the two with one vase being 20.1cm / 7.9ins high and the other 20.4cm / 8ins high. Both vases are 5.5cm / 2.1ins in diameter across the bases. The pair together weigh 411.2g / 14.5oz.
The hallmarks on the silver rims are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter k for 1905 and the J.H.W makers' mark for John Hazlewood Worrall.
Shipping in the UK is £6.50 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For Parcel Post.
