2 x Edwardian Silver Candlesticks, Mappin & Webb

Here we have a fine Pair of Edwardian Sterling Silver Candlesticks. The candlesticks are in the Georgian Revival style with circular domed bases, weighted for stability, two knops on the stems and cylindrical sconces with spreading top rims. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.
The candlesticks were made in London by world famous silversmiths Mappin & Webb and date to 1908. One of the best known names in English silverware, the firm was originally founded in 1810 by Joseph Mappin Snr. In 1859 the company split into two parts which would become Mappin Brothers and Mappin & Webb. They were reunited when Mappin & Webb bought Mappin Brothers in 1902. The Mappin & Webb brand name remains a byword for quality and style to this day.
Condition is good, with just some roughness around the two upper knops which suggests that they may have been compressed at some point in the past and then repaired. They are certainly secure and safe now. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
Each candlestick is 10.2cm / 4ins high and 8cm / 3.1ins in diameter across the base. The pair together weigh in at 570.4g / 20.1oz but this does of course include the weighting material in the bases.
The hallmarks,on the rims of the bases, are a little rubbed but still clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter n for 1908 and the Mn & Wb makers' mark for Mappin & Webb.
Shipping in the UK is £13 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the weight and value of the candlesticks.
Overseas customers, please ask us about shipping costs to your country before making a purchase.
