Vintage Silver Bottle Coaster, Nat Joseph, 1966
This is a smart Vintage Sterling Silver Galleried Bottle Coaster from the 1960s. The circular coaster has a turned wooden base with a green baize underside. The silver gallery bows outwards and is decorated with a pierced leaf design beneath a rolled top rim. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.
The bottle coaster was made in London by silversmith Nat Joseph and dates to 1966. Nat Joseph was active in the 1960s and 1970s and primarily produced drink related silverware such as claret jugs, decanter labels, silver mounted glassware, goblets and coasters.
Condition is very good with no dings, dents or damage to the silver gallery. As you would expect there is some wear to the turned wooden base after many wine bottles have sat on it over the years but it is undamaged and you could revarnish it if you wished to. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The bottle coaster is of a good size and will comfortably hold a broad based sparkling wine bottle as well as any normal red or white wine bottles. It measures 12.8cm / 5ins in diameter and stands 3.3cm / 1.3ins high. It weighs 148g / 5.2oz.
The hallmarks, on the bottom rim, are nice and clear to read with just a little rubbing to the makers' mark. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter l for 1966 and the distinctive script style N J makers' mark for Nat Joseph.
Shipping in the UK is £10 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the coaster.
Overseas customers, please ask us about shipping costs to your country before making a purchase.
