Victorian Sliver Mustard Spoon, S&I, Chester, 1899

This is a neat late Victorian Sterling Silver Mustard Spoon in the classic Old English pattern. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.
The mustard spoon was made by silversmiths Stokes & Ireland Ltd and assayed in Chester in 1899. The firm was established in Birmingham by William Henry Stokes & Arthur George Ireland in 1891 and operated from premises in Great Hampton Street in the famous Jewellery Quarter. Although Birmingham based, the majority of their pieces were assayed in Chester with only a few marked in their home town of Birmingham. They produced a very broad range of consistently good quality silverware and remained in business until the late 1930s.
Condition is very good with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that has to be expected after over 120 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The mustard spoon is 7cm / 2.7ins long and weighs in at 5.1g / 0.18oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the underside of the bowl, are a little rubbed, particularly the date letter, but can still be read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the sword and three wheatsheaves assay mark for Chester, the date letter Q for 1899 and the S.I.Ld makers' mark for Stokes & Ireland Ltd.
Shipping in the UK is £4.50 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For.
