Steve Winterburn (British born.) Icarus

Steve Winterburn (British born.)
Icarus
Medium: Bronze on Granite
Size: 70 x 60 x 20 cm
Signature: Edition 2/8
Provenance:
Direct from the artist’s studio, United Kingdom
This sculpture as the name suggests is Steve’s interpretation of the ancient Greek myth of Icarus. The flow and composition are aimed at telling the story, the base and main core of the sculpture is tied and formed into the ground creating a solid base for the piece to stand. This represents how Icarus’ father had told him to stay grounded and not fly too close to the sun. As the sculpture progresses up and becomes more expressive, Icarus’ head is turned away from the grounded wing and is looking out to his outstretched wing to show the desire of him wanting to fly and not heed his fathers warning. Any Patina can be available on this sculpture but Steve likes to have a more polished and lighter colour on the outstretched wing to depict the suns light.
