Impressive Bronze Venus de Milo, 36 inch High
This is a magnificent, beautifully modelled Grand Tour bronze of the Venus de Milo on a low variegated black marble plinth standing 36 inches tall in total and weighing 29 kilograms. Dating from the late 19th century or early 20th century she possesses a lovely rich brown patination. Though lacking a foundry stamp this fine casting of probable French origin is a faithful representation of the original in the Louvre carved from Parian marble.
The Venus de Milo is believed to represent Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love, whose Roman counterpart was Venus. One of the most famous works of ancient classical Greece sculpture, it was rediscovered on the island of Milos, Greece, in 1820.
Dimensions:
Height 91 cm (35 3/4")
Width 30 cm (12")
Depth 26 cm (10")
Weight 29 kg
Condition: Fine antique condition without damage and possessing a rich lustrous surface. There is some wear to the top of the head where lighter tones contrast with the rich brown colour of the rest of the statue. Please contact David if you would like to view further photographs.
Delivery: Due to its size and weight this bronze is best hand-delivered. Our trusted delivery man can deliver to most places on mainland England and Wales for £60. Please contact us to confirm the delivery cost.
