Silver Napkin Ring w/ R.Navy Interest, B'ham, 1933
This is a good quality heavy George V Sterling Silver Napkin Ring from the 1930s. It is round with deep sides and a scroll & flower rim to the top and bottom.
What sets this napkin ring apart is the engraving which plots the Royal Navy career of G.C. Collins from 1931 to 1954. It lists the ships, shore bases and training centres in which he served including service throughout World War Two on minelayer HMS Adventure, aircraft carrier HMS Formidable, destroyer HMS Hero and cruiser HMS Sheffield. He ended his naval career at the shore base HMS Drake in Devonport, Plymouth.
The napkin ring was made in Birmingham by well known silversmiths Joseph Gloster Ltd and dates to 1933, with the engraving clearly added later.
Condition is very good, with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect after this period of time. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The napkin ring is 4.7cm / 1.8ins in diameter and 3cm / 1.2ins deep. It weighs in at a very respectable 37.4g / 1.3oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks on the side of the ring are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter J for 1933 and the J.G.Ld makers' mark for Joseph Gloster Ltd.
Shipping in the UK is £6.50 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For Parcel Post.
