Silver Berry Spoon, Solomon Hougham London 1815
ere we have for sale a fine quality regency period sterling silver berry tablespoon. The spoon is delicately crafted and designed. There are remnants of the gilding inside the bowl. The spoon has an elegant floral bright cut decorated handle and repousse fruit to the bowl, coupled with a vacant cartouche.
The repousse berries are designed with intricate details: the seeds are engraved into the berries, a beautiful touch, whilst the detailing of the leaves are superb, this engraving is evident on the front and on the reverse of the bowl. The silver on the edge of the bowl is also modeled into a foliate pattern. These details gives the spoon a three dimensional effect. The silver also has a heavy gauge for its size.
Condition report: the spoon is in overall excellent order for its 200 year age, with small surface scratches and minor black tarnish marks that are found in antique silverware of this age. The spoon is not dented or misshapen or rubbed in any way, a lovely example indeed!
