Sampson Mordan Silver Cigar Piercer, London, 1907
This is a top quality Edwardian Sterling Silver Cigar Piercer. It is made in London by famous silversmiths Sampson Mordan & Co, who are renowned for their high quality silver accessories and dates to 1907. Sampson Mordan invented the mechanical pencil in 1822 and specialised in these up until the late 1830s when he rebranded as S. Mordan & Co and began to make many other small silver and gold items, always of the very best quality. His sons continued the business after his death until 1941 when their factory was destroyed in the London blitz. Today Sampson Mordan items are much sought after by collectors.
The Cigar Piercer is in good overall condition with just some regular wear as is to be expected after over 110 years of use. It is in full working order with a sharp retractable steel piercer and entirely suitable for use today or would make a great addition to a collection. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The Cigar Piercer is 7.1cm long and weighs 8.2g.
The hallmarks, which are somewhat rubbed but still clearly decipherable, are the lion passant for sterling silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter "m" for 1907 and the SM & Co makers' mark for Sampson Mordan & Co. In addition, around the collar, it says S.Mordan & Co Sterling Silver and L & C Hardtmuth, Patent.
Shipping in the UK is £4 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For.
Overseas customers please enquire about shipping costs before making a purchase.
