This authentic Art Deco powder compact is suitable for use with loose face powder or as a handbag mirror.

This is such an interesting powder compact it really does not matter if the monogram of M has an relevance to the recipient. First of all, the firm of Walker & Hall have a well documented history - we have a huge & lavishly illustrated fact pack which comes free with this purchase. Also the interior construction of this compact is very unusual. This compact is rare. The compact was made by Walker & Hall in the 1930s & assayed at Chester in 1935. Provincial assayed silver is highly collectible as it is so much rarer to find (for example) Chester assayed vanities. Some collectors will theme their collections 'Chester assayed silver'. The lid is very stylish - the cartouche is inscribed with the initial M. Around the cartouche guilloche engraving & the composition finished off perfectly by circular bands of smooth silver & blue enamel. A double thumb catch ensures ease of opening & this is where you see the difference...........both the powder well wall & raised mirror bezel are positioned to form a seal once the case is closed. Such an ingenious design! The mirror is excellent & gives a perfect reflection. The original silver sifter is in place & an adorable down puff with an ornamental bow. All clasps & hinges work perfectly. The base has beautiful guilloche engraving too.

This fully hallmarked sterling silver compact mirror measures 3" & weighs 76.7 grams.
