Queen's Silver Jubilee Spoon, Mappin & Webb, 1977
This is a superb quality commemorative spoon in solid Sterling Silver produced for the Silver Jubilee of HM The Queen in 1977. The spoon is made by world famous silversmiths Mappin & Webb, in a very heavy gauge of silver and comes in its original presentation box.
The spoon has a round bowl with a tapered stem leading to the finial which bears the coronation crown in Silver Gilt. The underside of the bowl has a relief of the royal coat of arms, which is beautifully detailed. The spoon is in very good condition and clearly hasn't been used but kept just as a commemorative piece. The presentation box, which is in very good condition, has inset silver lettering on the lid for "The Queen's Silver Jubilee. 1952-1977." Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The spoon is 13.8cm long and weighs a very substantial 44.5g of solid Sterling Silver.
The bowl has the leopard's head assay mark for London in the upper part towards the stem. The other hallmarks on the underside of the stem are the M&W makers' mark for Mappin & Webb, the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the date letter "C" for 1977 and the Queen's head Silver Jubilee stamp.
Most Royal souvenirs are mass produced and of only minimal quality but this is a wonderful quality piece in solid silver produced in a comparatively small quantity and will last for many years to come. A great collector's piece.
