Pretty Silver Square Tea Canister William Comyns
Very pretty Victorian silver tea canister of square form with ornate embossed and bright cut engraved decoration of scrolls and arabesques with green man style masks. Each side has a vacant cartouche. Plain shoulders rise to a pull off lid with matching organic decoration around the bottom half, stepping out to a melon fluted cap with delicate and finely engraved knop as a wild strawberry. Hallmarked for London 1894 and maker's marks to base, side and lid for renowned silversmith William Comyns & Sons Ltd.
It measures 4 3/4" high and 2" wide and weighs 143g/5.0ozt. Condition is excellent with no damage or dents and light and appropriate surface wear for age and use. Payment is accepted by bank transfer, card payments (via an online invoice, I'm afraid we cannot take payments over the telephone), Paypal and UK personal cheque.
