Silver Plate Spirit Kettle, Sissons, c.1880-1920
Here we have a superb quality Late 19th / Early 20th Century Silver Plate Spirit Kettle. The kettle comes complete with its stand, burner and two locking pins. The kettle is part reeded with a wooden handle and finial. The four legs of the stand are reeded and end in paw feet whilst the top rim of both stand and kettle have gadrooned decoration. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.
The spirit kettle was made in Sheffield by W & G Sissons and dates to between around 1880 and 1920. The firm traced its origins back to Roberts, Cadman & Co, established in Sheffield in 1786. William Sissons joined the firm as a partner in 1826 with the Sissons family taking full control in 1864. The company were principally electroplaters but did also manufacture some silverware. The firm remained in business until the start of the Second World War.
Condition is extremely good, with no dings or dents, no significant plate loss and just the superficial surface wear that you would anticipate with use and the passage of time. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The kettle is 21.5cm / 8.5ins from spout to rim, 11.5cm / 4.5ins across and stands 30cm / 11.8ins high. It weighs in at 1.31kg / 46.2oz.
The underside of the kettle and of the burner are both stamped with the bell trademark for W & G Sissons.
Shipping in the UK is £16 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value and the weight of the item.
