Phedre - Bronze Bust by J Clessinger/ Barbedienne
Bronze Bust of “Rachel in the role of Phedre” by
Jean-Baptiste Clesinger (1814-1883).
Cast by the Barbedienne foundry, on a rouge marble plinth stamped J. Clesinger, dated 1850, and with the original F. Barbedienne foundry paper label. Height overall is 10.5 inches.
“Phedre” is a 17th cent. classical tragedy by Jean Racine. Ms Felix was a French classical actress and celebrity of her day. She died in 1858.
