Perfect 19thC Welsh Slate Folk Art Shoes
A pretty and rare set of Welsh slate shoes dating from the late 19th century. In wonderful original condition and free from damage. This flat silhouette featured design is most unusual.
A traditional form of Welsh folk art, most examples originating from the slate mining regions of north west Wales. Carved by the quarry-men and slate workers during their spare time these pieces were often made as presents for loved ones or to generate additional income. Finer pieces displaying the makers skills were often entered into local Eisteddfodau.
