Pair of Edwardian Silver Candlesticks, 1904

1 of 6
Here we have a smart Pair of Edwardian Sterling Silver Pillar Candlesticks. The candlesticks have octagonal stepped bases, weighted for stability, straight octagonal pillar stems and flat octagonal drip trays. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.
The candlesticks were made in Sheffield by the well known firm of James Dixon & Sons and date to 1904. With a history dating back to around 1806 when it was a partnership between James Dixon and Thomas Smith, James Dixon & Sons was one of Sheffield's foremost silversmiths and electroplaters, particularly noted for their relationship with designer Dr Christopher Dresser whose groundbreaking silver plate teapot designs for the company are still being reproduced today. They were highly successful and remained in business up until the mid 1980s when they were absorbed into British Silverware.
Condition is good, with just a few small knocks to the bottom rims of the bases plus the superficial surface wear that you would expect after over 120 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
Each candlestick is 11cm / 4.3ins high and 7.3cm / 2.9ins across the base. The two together weigh in at 403.8g / 14.2oz but this does of course include the weighting material in the bases.
The hallarks, on the sides of the bases, are a little rubbed but still clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crown assay mark for Sheffield, the Gothic date letter m for 1904 and the J D & S makers' mark for James Dixon & Sons.
Shipping in the UK is £12.50 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the candlesticks.
Overseas customers, please ask us about shipping costs to your country before making a purchase.
