Mid-Century Silver Egg Cup & Spoon Set, 1958

This is an attractive Cased Mid-Century Sterling Silver Egg Cup and Spoon Set. The cup has a circular stepped base and a top rim decorated with a celtic style band. The spoon is in the Old English pattern. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind, making it ideal as a gift.
The egg cup and spoon were made in Birmingham by Charles S. Green & Co and dates to 1958. Charles Stevenson Green was a grandson of the original Charles Green who founded his firm in Birmingham in 1824, later becoming Charles Green & Son. Originally a partner in this firm with his brothers Lionel and Roland, Charles S. Green left in 1904 to set up his own company Charles S. Green & Co Ltd. Both companies were very successful with Charles S. Green & Co remaining in business up until around 1990 and Charles Green & Son still going strong today.
Condition is very good, with no dings or dents in either cup or spoon and just the minimal superficial surface wear that you would anticipate with use and the passage of time. The box is a little marked but in overall good condition with both the hinges and clasp in working order. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The egg cup stands 5.8cm / 2.3ins high and is 4.6cm / 1.8ins in diameter. The spoon is 11.4cm / 4.5ins long. Uncased the two items weigh in at 46.4g / 1.6oz of solid Sterling Silver and the boxed set weighs 219g / 7.7oz.
The hallmarks, on both egg cup and spoon, are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter I for 1958 and the C S G & Co makers' mark for Charles S Green & Co.
