Mid-Century Silver Caddy Spoon, Cooper Bros, 1966
This is a good quality Mid-Century Sterling Silver Caddy Spoon in the revived Hanoverian pattern. The spoon is made in Sheffield by renowned silversmiths Cooper Brothers & Sons and dates to 1966. The original Cooper Brothers, Thomas & John, founded the company in 1866, exactly 100 years before this spoon was made. They became Cooper Brothers & Sons in 1895 and had considerable success before finally being bought out in 1983.
The style of this caddy spoon is a conscious reproduction of Georgian designs from the 18th century. It is in the Hanoverian pattern with an upturned end to the stem and a central rib and the top of the bowl is squared off. It is a well made spoon in a good gauge of silver and remains perfectly usable today. It would also make a nice addition to any caddy spoon collection.
Condition is very good with no dings or dents and only minimal surface wear. The cartouche at the top of the stem is blank. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The spoon is 8.9cm / 3.5" long and weighs a respectable 12.0g / 0.42oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks on the underside of the stem are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crown assay mark for Sheffield, the date letter "Y" for 1966 and the CB&S in a shield makers' mark for Cooper Brothers & Sons Ltd.
Shipping in the UK is £4 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For.
