Little Boy Blue Silver Baby Spoon, W. Collins 1937
This is charming George VI Sterling Silver Baby Spoon featuring a design from the nursery rhyme Little Boy Blue. The small bowl is round, whilst the stem features the little shepherd blowing his horn to call the sheep from the meadow as in the rhyme. This would be perfect as a gift for a new born baby boy, as a christening gift or for baby's first Christmas.
The spoon is made in Birmingham by W.H. Collins & Co and dates to 1937. W.H. Collins were most active in the 1930s through to the 1950s and specialised in novelty silver, including baby items such as teethers, rattles, baby feeding sets and christening gifts.
Condition is very good with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect after over 80 years of good service. The Little Boy Blue design is clear and crisp. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The spoon is 9.8cm / 3.8ins long and weighs a respectable 18.9g / 0.67oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks on the underside of the bowl are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter N for 1937 and the W.H.C makers' mark for W.H. Collins & Co. In addition, on the underside of the stem, there is a registered design number of 756265, which dates the original design to 1930/31.
Shipping in the UK is £4 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For.
