Large Silver Heming & Co Candlestick London 1927
We have the real pleasure of being able to offer this large silver candlestick made by the prestigious firm of London silversmiths Heming & Co Ltd.
The candlestick is 11 inches high and of a lovely simple and very elegant baluster form and extends from a large (5 & 3/8 inches in diameter) base to a lovely removable sconce. This loaded candlestick carries hallmarks for London 1927, makers Marks for Heming and Co Ltd, D2524 Loaded and the address Heming & Co, Conduit St, London.
Heming's is one of the most prestigious London Jewelers. The company was established in 1746 by Thomas Heming. The company has since passed through a number of generations of Hemings at Mayfair addresses including Bond Street and Conduit Street. The company is currently based in the West End of London at 18-19 Burlington Arcade. Heming's is famed for producing the finest antique jewellery and silver and has received Royal patronage.
This candle stick is mostly in a good condition, the sconce fits tightly and carries hallmarks matching the base. The hallmarks on the base are a bit rubbed but quite legible. There are some nibbles around the base in keeping with 86 years of use along with a crease in the silver at the junction of the stick with the base. This is shown in photograph 5 and is reflected in the price.
