Japanese Scroll Holder, Meiji Period (1868-1912).

The top part is a carved hard wood owl with bone eyes. The scroll holder consists of 2 bone cylinders, the outer one with a scrimshaw-like decoration depicting 2 owls on a tree branch, with a landscape in the background.
