Georgian Silver & Gilt Snuff Box Georgian Silver Birmingham %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
A heavy and very solid Georgian sterling silver English snuff box dated 1822 - George 1V (assay Birmingham) . This is a quality as well as larger 3 inch box, with a gilt inside. Benefits from a great hinge and positive closure, marks to the lid and the base. All the decoration is in fine order, there is no loss to the inside gilt , marks are all crisp , the makers mark is 'TS' for probably Thomas Shaw, similar pieces have been attributed to him but note there are a couple of other makers with a similar mark.

It has a monogram inscription to the lid, contemporary with the piece, interestingly it reads 'G de LC', French style initials indicating a post Napoleonic war renewing of Anglo-French relations. We think these monograms add to the historical merit of items and the unusual certainly do.

Size: 2 7/8th inches long, 1 3/4 inches wide. 3/4 inch deep. Weight is 77 gms.

Condition: remarkable for its age and handling over 200 years., we would classify this as excellent, it is perfectly useable and is a clean crisp all original snuff box. There is no damage and no issues only the slightest of age wear far less than one would expect. It has been lightly cleaned, this is always a non abrasive and non mechanical action by us, if the new owner wants to go further and return to as new and losing the patina then the choice is there.
