George V Silver Teapot, Gsmiths & Ssmiths, 1913 George V Silver Teapot %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
Here we have an absolutely top quality George V Sterling Silver Teapot. The teapot is of oblong bulbous shape, sometimes called barge shaped, with two delicate bands of geometric decoration around the upper part of the body and another around the rim of the lid. The handle and the finial are ebonised. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.

The teapot was made in London by the illustrious Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Company and dates to 1913. Founded in 1880 by William Gibson and John Langman, The Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Company occupied a famous showroom at 112 Regent Street where they served a high end clientele with goods of the very finest quality. They manufactured at Clerkenwell in London and the Regent Works in Sheffield. In 1952 they amalgamated with their Regent Street neighbours Garrard & Co.

Condition is very good, with just the superficial wear that you would expect after 110 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The teapot measures 25cm / 9.8ins from spout to handle, 11cm / 4.3ins across the body and stands 11.8cm / 4.6ins high. It weighs in at a very substantial 590g / 20.8oz of Sterling Silver, with just a small amount of this being the ebonised handle and finial.

The hallmarks, on the upper part of the body near the handle, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter s for 1913 and the distinctive trefoil G & S Co Ld makers' mark for The Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Co Ltd. There is an additional partial set on the underside of the lid and the underside of the base has the retail stamp Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Company, 112 Regent Street, W.

Shipping in the UK is £12 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the teapot.
