George V Silver Sauce Boat, Viners Ltd, 1932
This is an elegant George V Sterling Silver Sauce Boat standing on three feet. The rim of the sauce boat is scalloped and it has a broad lip and a c-shaped handle. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.
The sauce boat is made in Sheffield by Viner's Ltd and dates to 1932. Viner's was founded by Adolphe Viener around 1901, later changing his name to Viner and bringing his sons in as partners. They were hugely successful up until the 1970s but then got into financial difficulties and ceased trading in the mid-1980s. The brand name is now owned by the US company Oneida.
Condition is very good with just the superficial surface wear that you would expect after 90 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The sauce boat is 17.7cm / 6.9ins from lip to handle, 9.5cm / 3.7ins across at its widest point and stands 7.8cm / 3.1ins high. It weighs a substantial 150g / 5.3oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks are the upper part of the body near the handle are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crown assay mark for Sheffield, the date letter p for 1932 and the E.V makers' mark for Emile Viner of Viner's Ltd.
Shipping in the UK is £10 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the sauce boat.
