George V Silver Purse, Henry Williamson, 1918 George V Silver Silk %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
Here we have a very stylish George V Sterling Silver Evening Purse with a green silk lining. The purse is broadly oval in shape with scalloped detail on the front and back, a snap closure and a finger ring attached to the purse by two robust chains. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.

The purse is made in Birmingham by Henry Williamson Ltd and dates to 1918. Henry Williamson established his business in London in 1865. After financial difficulties in the 1890s they emerged with a new owner as Henry Williamson Ltd and opened a second premises in Birmingham's famous Jewellery Quarter. They remained in business until the 1930s.

Condition is very good with just one small ding in the body of the purse and the superficial surface wear that you have to expect after over 100 years of good service. The hinge and clasp are in good working order. The green silk interior has no splits or signs of fraying but has a small stain on one side. The chains and finger ring are all securely attached. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The body of the purse is 8.8cm / 3.5ins across, 6cm / 2.4ins top to bottom and 2.5cm / 1in deep. The chains and finger ring extend 11.5cm / 4.5ins. Total weight is 61.9g / 2.2oz but this does include the very small amount of weight of the silk interior.

The hallmarks on the side of the body are a little rubbed but still clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter t for 1918 and the H.W.Ld makers' mark for Henry Williamson Ltd. In addition, the other side of the body has the lion passant and date letter t, whilst the finger ring and both chains are marked with the lion passant, so you can be sure this is Sterling Silver throughout.

Shipping in the UK is £10 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the purse.
