George V Silver Plate Mustard Pot, Walker & Hall
This is a well made George V Silver Plate Mustard Pot with its original blue glass liner and an accompanying Mustard Spoon. The mustard pot is a Victorian style barge shaped design standing on four splayed feet with a crimped top rim and a hinged lid with an urn shaped finial. The mustard spoon has a shell bowl and a ball finial.
The mustard pot was made in Sheffield by famous silversmiths and electroplaters Walker & Hall and dates to 1922, although the design was registered in 1897. Walker & Hall are one of the great names of English silverware. The firm was founded by George Walker in 1845 with Henry Hall joining in 1853 to form Walker & Hall. Hugely successful and very highly regarded they remained in business until they were merged with Mappin & Webb and Elkington & Co to form British Silverware in 1963. The mustard spoon is unmarked.
Condition is good, with no dings or dents, no significant plate loss and just a few spots of salt corrosion below the blue glass liner and therefore not visible when in use. There are no chips or cracks in the glass liner. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The mustard pot is 7cm / 2.75ins from rim to handle, 3.8cm / 1.49ins across and stands 4.5cm / 1.77ins high. The mustard spoon is 7.3cm / 2.87ins long. All together, the pot, liner and spoon weigh 67.5g / 2.38oz.
The underside of the base is stamped Walker & Hall, Sheffield alongside the famous W & H pennant mark and the date letter d for 1922. Below this is the registered design number 297349, which dates the original design to 1897.
