George V Silver Mustard Pot, Elkington & Co, 1913
This is a very good quality George V Sterling Silver Mustard Pot with all round pierced decoration. The mustard pot is made in Birmingham by world famous silversmiths Elkington & Co and dates to 1913. Elkington & Co, one of the most important names in English silver, was founded by George & Henry Elkington in the 1830s. They remained in business up until 1963 when they were absorbed into British Silverware Ltd alongside Mappin & Webb and Walker & Hall.
This is a very stylish mustard pot of oval form with all round pierced line and circle decoration and beaded rims at the top and bottom. There is a cartouche on one side with a crest of a partridge and fleur-de-lys. The thumb catch to operate the lid is fan shaped. It would look very elegant on any dining table, be it period or modern in style.
Condition is very good with no dings or dents and no damage to the pierced bodywork. The blue glass liner is top notch condition with no chips or cracks. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The oval body is 7cm / 2.75" long and 4.6cm / 1.8" wide. It stands 6.9cm / 2.6" high and is 9.2cm / 3.6" from handle to rim. Without the blue glass liner it weighs a substantial 73.7g / 2.6oz of solid Sterling Silver. With the glass liner included it weighs 144.1g / 5.08oz.
The hallmarks on the underside of the pot are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter "o" for 1913 and the distinctive E&Co makers' mark for Elkington & Co.
Shipping in the UK is £10 by Royal Mail Special Delivery Parcel Post, which includes cover for the value of the item.
