George V Silver Cream Jug & Sugar Bowl, 1920/22
Here we have a stylish George V Sterling Silver Cream Jug and Sugar Bowl from the 1920s. The matching items are round with a scalloped rim and stand on three legs. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.
The jug and bowl are made in Birmingham by or for Fattorini & Sons with the jug dated to 1920 and the sugar bowl to 1922. Fattorini & Sons were high end retailers with outlets in London, Birmingham, Glasgow and Bradford, who were active from the late 1880s up until around 1970.
Condition is generally good with just a small crease low down on the body of the cream jug near one of the legs and the surface wear on both pieces that you would expect after 100 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The cream jug is 10cm / 3.9ins from lip to handle, 5.6cm / 2.2ins across and stands 7.6cm / 3ins high. The sugar bowl is 9.7cm / 3.8ins in diameter and stands 5.7cm / 2.2ins high. The jug and bowl together weigh in at a substantial 125.9g / 4.4oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks on both pieces are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter v for 1920 on the jug and x for 1922 on the bowl and the F & S makers' mark for Fattorini & Sons.
Shipping in the UK is £10 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the set.
