George V Dressing Table Pot w/ Silver Lid, 1919
This is an elegant George V Cut Glass Dressing Table Pot with a Sterling Silver lid. The pot is oval in shape with hobnail cut decoration all around the body and a flat base. The silver lid is plain with a gilt interior. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.
The dressing table pot is made in London by Wolfsky & Co and dates to just after the First World War in 1919. Founded by Serle Bernard Wolfsky in London's West End in around 1890, the firm specialised in dressing table items and fitted vanity cases, often combining glass and Sterling Silver. They also made a range of smoking accessories. They remained in business up until around 1930.
Condition is good with no chips or cracks in the glass and just a few tiny dings in the silver lid, which is only to be expected after over 100 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The pot measures 13cm / 5.1ins in length, 3.4cm / 1.3ins across and stands 3.2cm / 1.2ins high. The lid by itself weighs a very respectable 32.2g / 1.1oz of solid Sterling Silver and all in the pot weighs 149.2g / 5.2oz.
The hallmarks on the side of the lid are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the Gothic date letter d for 1919 and the W & Co in an oval makers' mark for Wolfsky & Co.
Shipping in the UK is £6.50 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For Parcel Post.
