Edwardian Silver Vase, William Comyns, 1907
Here we have a top quality Edwardian Sterling Silver Vase of a good size. The vase has a pedestal base, a bulbous start to the body which then rises as a cylinder and broadens out to a fluted rim. The base is weighted for stability.
The vase is made in London by famous silversmiths William Comyns & Sons and dates to 1907. Founded by William Comyns in 1858, the firm became renowned in the late Victorian and Edwardian eras for the quality of their workmanship and the pieces were stocked by high end retailers around the world including Tiffany & Co in New York and the Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Co in London. William was joined and then succeeded by his sons. The Comyns family were finally bought out in the 1950s.
Condition is very good with just a couple of tiny dings and a small flat spot around the rim of the base plus the superficial surface wear that has to be expected with the passage of time. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The vase is a well made item of a good size, measuring 19.2cm / 7.5ins high and 10.4cm / 4.1ins in diameter across the top rim. It weighs in at a very substantial 528g / 18.6oz but this does include the weighting material in the base.
The hallmarks, on the side of the body, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter m for 1907 and the distinctive W.C in a four tipped oval makers' mark for William Comyns & Sons.
Shipping in the UK is £10 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the vase.
Overseas customers, please ask us about shipping costs to your country before making a purchase.
