Edwardian Silver Toast Rack, Thomas Bradbury, 1902
This is an elegant Edwardian Sterling Silver Four Slice Toast Rack. The shape is basically oblong with curved ends, whilst the dividers are shaped like a classic loaf of bread. It stands on four ball feet. One end of the toast rack has the engraving A.G.F.M. 1905, which suggests that this was given as a gift a few years after it was made.
The toast rack was made in Sheffield by well known silversmiths Thomas Bradbury & Sons and dates to 1902. By this date, the firm already had a long history having been founded way back in 1736 by Matthew Fenton. Through purchases and partnerships it came into the Bradbury family in 1795. They continued through several generations until finally closing down in 1943.
Condition is good with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect after nearly 120 years of use. It stands securely with no rocking on a flat surface. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The toast rack is 10.6cm / 4.2ins long, 5.4cm / 2.1ins wide and stands 8.9cm / 3.5ins high. It weighs a substantial 66.3g / 2.3oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the opposite end to the engraving, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crown assay mark for Sheffield, the date letter k for 1902 and the T.B & S in a shield makers' mark for Thomas Bradbury & Sons.
Shipping in the UK is £10 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the toast rack.
Overseas customers, please ask us about shipping costs to your country before making a purchase.
