Edwardian Silver Teapot, Walker & Hall, 1908
Here we have a fine quality Edwardian Sterling Silver Teapot. It is scalloped with ribs at each diaginal corner, a spreading scalloped foot and the rib design continuing onto the lid and the finial. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.
The teapot was made in Sheffield by world famous silversmiths Walker & Hall and dates to 1908. Walker & Hall are one of the great names of English silverware. The firm was founded by George Walker in 1845 with Henry Hall joining in 1853 to form Walker & Hall. Hugely successful and very highly regarded they remained in business until they were merged with Mappin & Webb and Elkington & Co to form British Silverware in 1963.
Condition is good with just one tiny ding below the hallmark and two small shallow dents on the ribbing on one corner plus the overall superficial surface wear that you would anticipate after over 115 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The teapot has a 710ml / 1.25pt capacity. It measures 25cm / 9.8ins from spout to handle, 11cm / 4.3ins across the body and stands 12.7cm / 5ins high. It weighs in at a substantial 367.9g / 12.98oz, which does of course include the wooden handle and finial.
The hallmarks, on one side of the body, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crown assay mark for Sheffield, the date letter q for 1908 and the famous W & H in a pennant makers' mark for Walker & Hall. There is also a Walker & Hall retail stamp on the underside of the base.
Shipping in the UK is £12 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the teapot.
