Edwardian Silver Pin Tray G'smiths & S'smiths 1901
This is a fine quality Edwardian Sterling Silver Pin Tray or Trinket Dish. The tray is oblong with embossed scrolling leaf decoration across the base surrounding a blank central cartouche. The shallow sides are crimped.
The pin tray was made in London by the famous Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Co and dates to 1901. Founded in 1880 by William Gibson and John Langman, The Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Company occupied a famous showroom at 112 Regent Street where they served a high end clientele with goods of the very finest quality. They manufactured at Clerkenwell in London and the Regent Works in Sheffield. In 1952 they amalgamated with their Regent Street neighbours Garrard & Co.
Condition is extremely good, with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that you would anticipate after over 120 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The tray measures 10.7cm / 4.2ins by 7.4cm / 2.9ins and is 0.5cm / 0.19ins high. It weighs in at a respectable 34.2g / 1.2oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the inside edge of the base, are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter f for 1901 and the G & S Co Ld in a trefoil makers' mark for The Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Co Ltd.
Shipping in the UK is £6 by Royal Mail Tracked 24.
