Edwardian Silver Pierced Spoon, Levesley Bros 1902
This is a beautiful and unusual Edwardian Sterling Silver Pierced Spoon. The design is influenced by Art Nouveau with its sweeping lines and foliate motifs. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.
The spoon was made in Sheffield by silversmiths Levesley Brothers and dates to 1902. Brothers Charles, William & Thomas Levesley registered their first marks as Levesley Brothers in 1862. They were cutlers, silversmiths and electroplaters with their main output being cutlery and flatware. By 1891, the business was being run by Thomas and his son William and the firm opened a London showroom. Thomas died in 1924 and the firm ceased trading in 1929.
Condition is extremely good with no dings, dents or damage and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect after over 120 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The spoon is 14.8cm / 5.8ins long and weighs in at a respectable 27.9g / 0.98oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, in the centre of the bowl, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crown assay mark for Sheffield, the Gothic date letter k for 1902 and the T L makers' mark for Thomas Levesley of Levesley Brothers.
