Edwardian Silver Pepper Shaker, Deakin & Francis
This is a pretty Edwardian Sterling Silver Pepper Shaker. The shaker is of baluster form with reeded decoration around the lower part of the body and ribbon and bow swags decorating the upper part. It stands on a low pedestal foot. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.
The pepper shaker is made in Birmingham by renowned silversmiths Deakin & Francis and dates to 1904. The firm dates its origin back to Benjamin Woolfield in 1786. He was joined by Charles Deakin in 1816 with the firm becoming Deakin & Moore in 1848 and finally Deakin & Francis in 1881. The company continues to be run by members of the Deakin family and still operates from their original Birmingham premises.
Condition is good, with just a shallow bruise to the shoulder of the pepper shaker and the superficial surface wear that has to be expected after this period of time. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The pepper shaker stands 7cm / 2.75ins high and is 2.7cm / 1.06ins in diameter at its widest point. It weighs in at 17.8g / 0.63oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the front of the body, are nice and clear to read with just a little rubbing to the makers' mark. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter e for 1904 and the D & F makers' mark for Deakin & Francis.
Shipping in the UK is £6.50 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For Parcel Post.
