Edwardian Dressing Table Pot with Silver Lid, 1905
This is an attractive Edwardian Cut Glass Dressing Table Pot with a Sterling Silver Lid. The glass pot is oval with a flat base and a hobnail cut body. The silver lid is embossed with a scroll and flower design around a blank central cartouche and is gilded on the underside.
The pot is made in London by Hart & Sons and dates to 1905. Hart & Sons were wholesalers and manufacturers who were in business from 1900 until the start of the First World War. Their mark is almost exclusively seen on silver mounted glass and leather items.
Condition is very good, with no chips or cracks in the glass. The silver lid has a couple of tiny dings in the cartouche but otherwise has only the superficial surface wear that you would expect with use and the passage of time. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The dressing table pot is 7.5cm / 2.9ins long by 3cm / 1.2ins wide and stands 2.5cm / 0.98ins high. The lid by itself weighs 5.8g / 0.2oz of solid Sterling Silver and all together the pot weighs in at 54.5g / 1.9oz.
The hallmarks, on the side rim of the lid, are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter k for 1905 and the H & S makers' mark for Hart & Sons.
Shipping in the UK is £6.50 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For Parcel Post.
