A novelty Art Deco silver perpetual desk calendar by W J Myatt & Co, Birmingham 1930. Rectangular silver engine-turned frame mounted on an ebonised-wood back and stand. Hinged and latched opening to its back reveals a full set of cards. Brass knobs turn to draw a cellophane sheet across its window behind a glass cover. Turn the brass knobs to score-out dates as they pass. Stamped registered patent number 737685. Hallmarked for silversmiths W J Myatt & Co and Birmingham 1930. Maximum vertical height is 10 cm and maximum width is 15 cm.
The desk calendar is in overall very good condition commensurate with age and use. Very minor marks to the silver. Wooden back and stand are sound and in very good condition. Back opening, hinge and latches are sound and in very good condition. Full set of cards in aged but good condition. Cellophane roll complete and in good order - has a repair to one of its ends. Please see images as these form an important part of the description.

WJ Myatt & Co was established in 1898 as manufacturing silversmiths and electro-platers - becoming WJ Myatt & Co Ltd in 1899. In 1929 they were listed with silver-works at Graham Street and Frederick Street, Birmingham and with London showrooms at 94 Hatton Garden. Initially registered at the Chester Assay Office in 1898 (at which point they were working from Caroline Street, Birmingham) - they subsequently registered with the Birmingham Assay Office in 1900 (by this time occupying their silverworks at Graham Street and Frederick Street, Birmingham). Apart from silver manufacturers they produced a number of patents including one for "Myatt Patent Daymarked Safety Razor Blades as supplied to H. M. Government". Their activity as silversmiths appears to cease after WWII.
