Continental Solid Silver Compact w/ Mirror c.1930s
This is a very attractive, superior quality Continental Solid Silver Compact with inner tray and mirror. The compact is rectangular with rounded corners. Both the lid and the base have engine turned decoration and the lid also has a beautifully engraved scroll decoration around the edge.
When you open the compact you see the mirror, which is in excellent condition and gives a perfect reflection and the inner tray, which has the initials EC very neatly engraved on it. This ensures that any loose powder doesn't escape the compact or get onto the surface of the mirror.
The inner tray is operated by a small catch on the right hand side and springs back to reveal the powder compartment complete with its original sifter screen and puff.
The inside of the compact is marked near the hinge with 800 FS, indicating that the compact is made from continental standard 800 grade silver.
The compact measures 8cm / 3.1" long and 6.7cm / 2.7" wide. Without the sifter and puff, it weighs a very substantial 116.2g / 4.1oz.
Condition is excellent with no dings or dents. The catches, springs and hinges are all in perfect working order. The compact is suitable for use with modern loose face powder. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
