This is a charming antique set of the Three Star Gods, Fu Xing, Lu Xing and Shou Xing, nicely carved from bamboo, dating from early 20th century.

Fu Xing is the star god symbolising blessings and happiness as a result of good fortune. In ancient China, he was considered the human form of the star controlling agriculture. He is dressed as a court official, sporting a winged hat and holding a gold ingot.

Lu Xing is the first star of the Big Dipper constellation and god of prosperity, symbolising career success. He is dressed as a Mandarin and holds a baby boy.

Finally, Shòu Xing is the star god of longevity and is is known as “The Old Deity of the South Pole.” In Chinese astronomy, this star is also thought to determine the time of a person’s death – hence Shòu Xing’s representation of longevity. In his human form, Shòu Xing is characterised by a high domed head, the “Peach of Immortality” that he carries in his left hand and a peachwood staff in his right hand.
