Art Deco Silver Teapot, Garrard & Co, London, 1926

Here we have a top quality Art Deco Sterling Silver Teapot. The circular teapot has a flat base and upright body which flares out to a stepped top and hinged lid. The handle and finial are ebonised wood.
The teapot was made in London by famous silversmiths Garrard & Co and dates to 1926. Garrard & Co traces its history back to the firm founded by John Wickes in 1722. Robert Garrard became a partner in the firm in 1792 and sole proprietor in 1802. It passed through several members of the Garrard family becoming Garrard & Co in 1909 and later absorbing The Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Company in 1952. Renowned for the quality of their items, Garrard & Co remains one of the foremost jewellers and silversmiths in the world today.
Condition is very good with just a couple of small, very shallow dings in the body plus the superficial surface wear that you would expect after almost 100 years of good service. The hinged lid sits flat and the handle is securely attached. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The teapot has a capacity of 1.25 pints / 710ml. It is 23cm / 9ins from spout to handle, 13.1cm / 5.1ins across and 12.8cm / 5ins high. It weighs in at a substantial 407.9g / 14.39oz, which does of course include the wooden handle and finial.
The hallmarks, on the side of the body, are a little rubbed but still clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter l for 1926 and the S G makers' mark for Sebastian Garrard of Garrad & Co Ltd.
Shipping in the UK is £13.50 by Royal Mail Tracked 24, which includes cover for the value of the teapot.
