Art Deco Silver Cigarette Box, S.W. Goode, 1928
Here we have a stylish Art Deco Sterling Silver Cigarette Box with a Cedar Wood lining. The box has engine turned stripes across the lid with a blank circular cartouche in the centre. The sides are plain and the underside of the base is covered with thin black leather.
The cigarette box was made in Birmingham by S.W. Goode & Co and dates to 1928. Established around 1920, S.W. Goode & Co operated from premises in Prescott Street on the edge of Birmingham’s Jewllery Quarter. The company primarily produced smoking accessories but also made some good quality photo frames. They remained in business into the late 1930s.
Condition is very good, with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that you would anticipate after over 95 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The box measures 11.4cm / 4.5ins by 8.5cm / 3.3ins and stands 3.9cm / 1.5ins high. It weighs in at 259.6g / 9.1oz.
The hallmarks, on the side of the base and the lid, are a little rubbed but still clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter D for 1928 and the S W G & Co makers' mark for S.W. Goode & Co.
Shipping in the UK is £11.50 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the cigarette box.
Overseas customers, please ask us about shipping costs to your country before making a purchase.
