Art Deco Dressing Table Pot with Silver Lid, E.G Bek
This is a very stylish Art Deco Cut Glass Dressing Table Pot with a high grade 935 Silver lid. The round pot has slice cut panels whilst the lid has an engine turned top with a key pattern around the outside rim and a central blank cartouche. The inside of the lid is gilded.
The pot is made in Pforzheim, Germany by Ernst Gideon Bek and dates to around the 1920s / 1930s. Bek was born in Pforzheim in 1872 and founded his business in 1897. He was initially known for his mesh handbags and purses in silver, gold and platinum but later moved into antique jewellery and small silverware personal items. He suffered a stroke in 1932, from which he never fully recovered, and passed control of the company to his two sons in the mid-1930s. He died in 1945.
Condition is very good, with no chips or cracks in the glass, no dings or dents in the silver and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect with use and the passage of time. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The pot is 5cm / 1.97ins in diameter and stands 3.5cm / 1.38ins high. The lid by itself weighs 17.9g / 0.63oz of high grade 935 silver, whilst all together the pot weighs in at 58.0g / 2oz.
The underside of the lid is clearly stamped with the 935 mark for high grade 935/1000 silver (Sterling Silver is 925/1000) and the distinctive butterfly makers' mark for Ernst Gideon Bek.
Shipping in the UK is £6.50 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For Parcel Post.
