8 Meiji Japanese Silver Spoons - Signed Musashiya 20th Century Gold Silver %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
A beautiful addition to the table for ice-cream, small desserts or preserves - delicate antique Japanese craftsmanship in high-grade silver. A set of eight Japanese 950 silver spoons with cast, pierced and chased handles and curved spade bowls. Ca. 1890-1910. Japanese script marks and Latin script mark - Musashiya- 12.5 cm - bowls 40x35 mm. Weight is 151g. Crafted in higher than Sterling grade silver (950 parts per thousand vs. 925), these spoons are an outstanding example of Japanese Meiji craftsmanship and the finely cast and pierced handles are decorated with a delicate motif of five flowers. A gold dot is used for the centre of each flower. The decoration continues to the back of the handles where the reverse of the decoration is picked out in fine chasing. There are matching Japanese hallmarks to the back of each spoon and the English script Musashiya. The Yokohama silversmith became known in the late 19th Century for delicate and high-quality aesthetic period work commissioned by Liberty & co for their London store.

Excellent condition consistent with age and use. The observations below are intended for completeness and transparency. There is nothing material that detracts from aesthetics or function.. As can be expected with silver of this fineness and age, there is slight deformity along the length of some of the handles, together with light surface scratching to the silver. The gold centre from one of the flowers is missing - visible under loupe.

I trade in small silver, jewellery and objets d'art. I sell primarily at antiques fairs and in cabinets in Christique Antique Centre in Dorking. I try to find unusual and interesting stock and like to keep turning it over, so I can buy more. Postage and packing are free within the UK - unless explicitly stated otherwise. All fine jewellery will be supplied with a box. If the box/case is described in the text, it will be the one photographed, but may not be if it is not mentioned explicitly. I keep hardly any stock at home, if you want to buy something and need it urgently, I will usually do it the next day, but it may take me some time to respond if you need extra photographs and/or details about the piece that I do not have to hand, as I typically visit the antiques centre just once a week. If you don't see what you're looking for - feel free to send an enquiry via the site. I have only been able to list a portion of my stock.

I will always mention anything that materially affects the aesthetic or function of a piece, but will not attempt to describe what I consider to be normal for age and use. Please use the photographs as well as you can and I’m always happy to answer specific questions.
