6 x Silver Cake Forks & Tea Knives, Sheffield 1966
This is an attractive vintage cased set of six Sterling Silver Handled Cake Forks and six Sterling Silver Handled Tea Knives in the popular Queen's Pattern. The uppers of both forks and knives are in stainless steel and are set into the silver handles. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.
The knives and forks were made in Sheffield by Harrison Brothers and date to 1966. The Harrison Brothers brand name dates back to the firm of Harrison Brothers and Howson, which was founded in 1847. In 1923 the firm was bought by Viner's Ltd, who continued to use the Harrison Brothers & Howson name up until the Second World War. In the 1950s to 1970s the brand was revived just as Harrison Brothers and specialised in silver handled flatware and cutlery.
Condition is extremely good with no damage and virtually no wear. It seems likely that these have seen very little use in their life to date. The case has a few minor scuffs on the outside and some disclouring to the satin lining inside the lid. The hinges and clasps are in good working order. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The cake forks are each 15.3cm / 6ins long and the tea knives are each 16.5cm / 6.5ins long. The set of 12 together, unboxed, weighs in at 263.3g / 9.3oz of Sterling Silver and steel.
The hallmarks on the silver handles are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crown assay mark for Sheffield, the date letter Y for 1966 and the HB in a diamond makers' mark for Harrison Brothers.
Shipping in the UK is £12 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the set.
