6 x George V Silver Teaspoons, London, 1922-24
This is an exquisite set of six high quality George V Sterling Silver Teaspoons. Basically in the Old English pattern, the teaspoons are raised to a different level by the beautiful hand engraving of birds and flowers on each stem. The cartouche on each spoon is blank, making these ideal as a gift or simply an elegant item for your own use or to add to a collection.
The teaspoons are made by Josiah Williams & Co of Bristol and assayed in London in the early 1920s. Three spoons are dated 1922, two for 1923 and one for 1924. Josiah Williams & Co were a hugely successful silversmiths, the biggest in England outside of London, Birmingham and Sheffield. Founded in 1818, they remained in business up until the start of the Second World War.
Condition is extremely good, with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect after around 100 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
This is a well made set of teaspoons in a heavy gauge of silver. Each spoon is 11.7cm / 4.6ins long and the set of six together weighs in at a substantial 93.9g / 3.3oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the undersides of the stems, are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letters g for 1922, h for 1923 or II for 1924 and the D.F makers' mark for David Fullerton, the head of Josiah Williams & Co at that time.
Shipping in the UK is £10 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the spoons.
