6 Victorian Silver Apostle Teaspoons, London, 1891
Here we have a fine quality cased set set of six Victorian Sterling Apostle Teaspoons. They are double struck with a proper front and back to the apostle figure on the finial and a winged angel's face on either side where the stem joins the bowl.
The teaspoons are made in London by The Goldsmiths Alliance and date to 1891. The Goldsmiths Alliance was a descendant of famous silversmiths A.B. Savory & Sons which had been founded back in the 1820s. The firm is closely associated with several generations of the Smily family who acted as works managers but by the 1890s the Savory family were managing the company directly.
Condition of the spoons is extremely good with no dings or dents and only the most minimal superficial surface wear that has to be expected after 130 years of use. The box is in pretty good condition with just a few small scuff marks but one hinge does need a new pin. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The spoons are each 10.6cm / 4.2ins long and the set of six together, unboxed, weighs in at a very respectable 81.5g / 2.9oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks on the undersides of the bowls are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter Q for 1891 and the J S H makers' mark for Joseph & Horace Savory of The Goldsmiths Alliance.
Shipping in the UK is £10 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the spoons.
Overseas customers, please ask us about shipping costs to your country before making a purchase.
