2 x William IV Irish Silver Mustard Spoons PW 1833
This is a smart pair of William IV Irish Sterling Silver Mustard Spoons in the traditional Fiddle pattern. The spoons have a crest of a lion holding a star at the top of each stem, which is used by both the Craig and Dillon families in Ireland.
The mustard spoons were made in Dublin by silversmith Philip Weekes and date to 1833. Philip Weekes was a specialist spoon maker who served his apprenticeship under fellow Dublin silversmith Samuel Neville before registering his own mark in 1816. He produced fine quality spoons and other flatware for at least 30 years into the late 1840s.
Condition is very good, with no dings or dents, no salt corrosion and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect after 190 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
Each spoon is 10.6cm / 4.2ins long and the pair together weigh in at a respectable 22.5g / 0.79oz of sold Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the undersides of the stems, are nice and clear to read. They show the crowned harp for Irish Sterling Silver, the Hibernia assay mark for Dublin, the date letter N for 1833, the William IV duty mark and the P W makers' mark for Philip Weekes.
